Term 1 Week 8

 Kia Ora Kākano whānau


Wow, Week 8 already! The term seems like it’s flying by. 


We would like to thank parents for their continued support of the school’s Covid protocols. It looks like a wet week so we would again like to remind you that on a wet day, we ask all parents to stay on the outside of the Kākano gates as we have lots of children to get to set areas. Once again, if your child tests positive it is very important to let either Dave, Anne, your child's teacher or the school office know.  Thanks for all your help with this. Also a  big thumbs up to those children and whanau who are working hard on the Home Learning activities.


Many of you will notice some differences to the reading coming home and should receive an information sheet/email about the changes. Please check their book bags and home books for any activities we have sent home.  It is an exciting time for the Kakano teachers as we move into the next phase of our structured literacy programme. 


Swimming

Kākano 2 are swimming this week.  Please bring your togs every day.


Gym  

Mondays at lunchtime if your child wishes to attend. Girls bring shorts and a t-shirt. Boys can come in their uniform - you can bring shorts and t-shirts if you wish.


Roller Skating

Fridays at lunchtime if your child wishes to attend. Bring your own skates and helmets. 


Recycling

Thank you for all the recycling that has been coming in, this is an ongoing need as the children are enjoying making some amazing creations.

Tuesday - normal school day, library day, swimming

Wednesday - normal school day, swimming

Thursday - normal school day, swimming

Friday -  sausage sizzle and juicy day $1.50 each, roller skating, swimming

Reading information

  Kia Ora Kākano whānau,                                            It is likely you will see a big change in the reading books your child is receiving from this week. As you may be aware, St Marys is in the process of changing to a ‘structured literacy’ approach to reading. A consequence of this will be a change in the type and frequency of books being sent home. Each week the book will be targeting a specific reading/spelling rule that your child is learning to master. The books may appear too ‘easy’, however the focus is firmly on the particular rule being taught.  On Mondays your child will bring home an activity sheet with words from the story. (There may be other activities that come home, focussing on your child’s individual needs).  These words can be sounded out and practised, with the actual book coming home near the end of the week. Repetition is the key to embedding the rule until it becomes automatic, so this book can be read over and over again.  At this stage they will b

Term 2 Week 10

  Welcome to all our Kākano families and friends! We cannot believe how this term has flown and we are in our final week. Our tamariki are definitely going to need some down time in the holidays to relax. We hope you all have a fantastic break with your family. Principal’s Lunch Mr Macmillan will be having a Principal’s Lunch on Wednesday for some of our children who have been recognised for their hard work or participation in the classroom. The children attending the lunch will be coming home with an invitation. R.E. Books We hope you have enjoyed looking through your childs RE books and seeing what the children have been learning over the last couple of terms. Term 3 Week 5

  Week 5 Kia ora whānau, it’s lovely to see the sun out again. Let’s hope it stays that way for most of this week. Our kakano tamariki love being able to play outside and sorely missed that last week. Cross Country Weather permitting, this is happening on Friday the 26th August at 11:10am at school. Children need to wear their school uniform to school and bring either their PE gear OR shorts and t-shirt to change into. Children will also need to bring shoes to run in as we are running on the footpath as well as the field. If you are able to help, please let your child’s classroom teacher know as soon as possible. Mini Marathon A reminder that the form and payment need to be handed into the office by Tuesday 23rd August - that’s this coming Tuesday. Late entries will not be accepted.
