Term 2 Week 5

  Tālofa lava!  This week is Samoa Language week. Samoa Language Week celebrates the identity, language, and culture of students from Samoa and students whose families are from Samoa.  Throughout the week there will be activities children can participate in during class time as well as lunch breaks. Why not try learning some words or phrases to use at home this week… Tālofa lava: Hello (formal) Mālō le soifua: Hello/Good health ‘O ā mai 'oe? How are you? (to one person only) Manuia fa‘afetai: Good, thank you Manuia le aso: Have a great day Tōfā soifua: Good bye (formal) Our Learning This week sees our morning play change to a different curriculum area.  Over the next two weeks children will have the opportunity to develop their skills as scientists.  Teachers will be supporting the children to use the science capabilities such as observing, inferring, and gathering data while conducting simple science experiments. Term 2 Week 4

  Week 4 Pink Shirt Day was a great success - thanks for supporting this.  We celebrate diversity in all forms and we want our school to be safe, supportive, welcoming and inclusive for everyone.  Teacher Only Day Tuesday 7th June is a Teacher Only Day. The Teachers at St Mary’s will be joining John Paul College for this day’s focus of ‘Matariki’. There will be no school for children on this day. If you require childcare you can contact Maryanne Rolling on 0211 215599. Structured Literacy Our consultant, Marion Kirby from Learning Matters observed our structured literacy lessons and commented we could be a 'model' team! We also had a good turnout for her information evening. Term 2 Week 3

Thanks so much to all our Parents, Caregivers, and students who came to our 3-way Conferences this week. It was great to catch up with you all and discuss your child's progress and next steps. School Photos On Monday morning we have our school photos. Our classes are up first so there will be little chance of getting dirty. We will make sure all our tamariki look just right for the photos. Boys are to have their woollen jerseys on and girls are to wear their skivvy and tunic with long hair tied back. Please ensure your child’s jerseys are named too, in case they take them off!   Welcome back! We hope you have had a wonderful break and got plenty of rest and relaxation along the way. We are looking forward to seeing your tamariki tomorrow in their winter uniforms and hearing all about their holidays.  Welcome to our new families joining St. Mary’s. We are looking forward to getting to know your tamariki and developing relationships with them and yourselves. There are lots of new friends to make that will be starting school on the same day and I’m sure there are children they may already know in our kakano space. Week 2 Conferences

  Week 2 Term 2 Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences We have Three-Way Conferences (for  Parent /Student/Teacher) scheduled for Tuesday 10 May and Wednesday 11 May. Families can choose the day that will work best for them.  Students and their  parent (s) need to attend a 10 minute appointment on one of these two days. Term 1 Week 11

  Kia Ora!  Wow, we have come to the end of the term, Our last school day is Thursday.  We have managed to fit it alot of learning and fun despite the rough start of Covid, lets hope the next three terms has less interruptions We continue to be safe in and around our classroom to ensure everyone feels comfortable every day in Kākano. Please remember if your child is unwell they need to stay at home.  Holy Week Today marks the start of Holy Week.  With today being Palm Sunday.  We will continue to learn about the events that take place during this week.  We have a Liturgy on Thursday that we will attend in our classes. There are Masses taking place this week and next weekend. Unfortunately, we still cannot attend Mass as a school, it would be great to see families attend Mass together.  After the holidays, children are expected to be in their winter uniforms.
